If you’ve ever wondered how calculators add numbers, they use a special set of numbers called the base-2 number system. This is the way calculators and computers work with numbers, and I found a great visual for wrapping your head around how to count in binary. Although this mechanism is over $250 to purchase, you can simply watch it over and over until you get the hang of it, then make your own with rocks and lines on paper. Here’s what it looks like:
